Hello and Welcome! My name is Molly Sharp and I am the creator of VlaTutti, the principal violist of the Richmond Symphony (VA), and I teach at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Collaboration is just about one of my favorite things; working together and community lights me up. I find joy in collaboration. While music publishing is at the core of VlaTutti, it is growing to include so much more.
Past projects have included:
Bratsche Bundles: Curated sampler packs of viola duets sheet music to keep you and your students entertained and inspired.
The Musician’s Guide to Physical Wellness: a series exploring mind and body-based self care. Over the course of six weeks we got to experience an introduction and session about Feldenkrais, Tai Chi, Pilates, Body Mapping, Alexander Technique, and Myofascial Release.
The Finger Pattern Paradigm: A series of two workshops presented by Molly Sharp and Melissa Matson. Workshop#1 covered the basic finger patterns (tetrachords) that one needs for fluency in playing. The concepts covered in this workshop come from The Tonal Application of Finger Patterns and Viola Scale Technique by Heidi Castleman and Joseph Koob, and the finger pattern work of Tibor Varga. Workshop #2, taught by Melissa Matson, author of One-Position Finger Pattern Scales for Viola, expands upon the finger pattern paradigm by exploring all of the combination and permutations of the basic tetrachords covered in Workshop #1. Melissa mixes in string crossings, different bowing patterns, different positions and tempi.
Virtual Viola Group Warmup: This group of violists met three days a week during the early days of the pandemic as a way to stay motivated, inspired, and connected. We started each session with 20 minutes of gentle stretching, then had 30 minutes of warmup exercises. Find resources for warmup exercises here.
